Midway through the second season of Victoria on PBS I noticed during the credits that the show is actually based off the writing of a book by Daisy Goodwin.
Having already read, and thoroughly enjoyed, several of her other novels, I immediately added the Victoria to my Kindle Library. It took me several months to get around to actually starting the book and it is a shame I waited so long. I normally like to read books before seeing the screen adaptation and this is definitely a situation where having read the book first would have been helpful. The book is able to go into more detail about certain true historical events and is also able to give a greater understanding of different characters’ motivations.
What I like most about Daisy Goodwin novels is that even though they are historical fiction, they are incredibly accurate. Yes, I am that annoying person who is constantly googling things when reading historical books, and so far all of the stories and anecdotes from all of her novels that I have investigated further have checked out.
If the British Monarchy is of interest to you (isn’t it to everyone?), or if you are simply looking for a well written factually accurate historical fiction novel, this is a great read!
