There is something about sunny days and warm weather that always puts me in the mood to entertain at home. Blame my Scandinavian bloodline. For after a winter of hibernation, I am feeling rested, recharged, and ready to partay haha! Since the host of any gathering tends to set the mood, I always try to set a laid back and comfortable tone. My goal is for my guests to feel at ease the moment they walk through the door. I also make sure to be an active participant in the gathering, not locked away in the kitchen (why have people over if you can’t spend time with them?)
Another tip for easy breezy hosting at home is using disposable serveware. After a fun and successful event, your clean up is minimized and you won’t find yourself up all night elbow deep in soapy water and exhaustion trying to finish hand washing the last of those, oh so fancy, yet impractical wine glasses. Disposable serveware is also especially helpful when you have more guests (yay for friends!) than fancy wine glasses (or plates, or forks, or knives etc.). It is also great for poolside entertaining (or any location really, where broken glass could be a problem) and it is especially great for my favorite summer pastime of all: the barbecue. For those who feel guilty about the additional waste (we all should be cognizant of that) look for products that are recyclable like the cups pictured above, or any compostable product like those made by World Centric.
Socializing and connecting with others is so important not only to our happiness but also to our health. Having people over to your home is a great way to connect with friends and family and strengthen your social bonds. If some super cute and disposable dishes alleviate some of the stress (and work) related to hosting, I say: “Cheers to that! There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea. But the best ships are friendships, may they ever be” – Irish Proverb
I couldn’t resist commenting. Very well written!
