I am huge fan of the whole Hygge movement. Any philosophy that focuses on being cozy yet still social in the comfort of your home during the cold winter months really should be embraced in every northern region!
I fondly recall all of the fun movie and game nights I attended during grad school in Sweden, when the sun was down for the day by 2 pm (if you were fortunate enough to be graced by its presence at all). We would all gather at someone’s apartment and get comfy in a room lit with candles while we drank glogg and ate candy. It was such a magical way to connect with friends on those long cold nights.
I have tried to embrace that same cozy sense of entertaining here in Chicago. The hours of sunlight may be slightly longer, but the human connection is still imperative during these winter months. I love The Hygge Life book pictured above because a) it fits perfectly with my decor so I can display it year round b) it offers some great ideas for holiday hygge hosting. I am actually having some friends over Friday night and will be incorporating some of the hygge tips from this book! Hygge Holiday parties might just be the best holiday parties ever! Good food, good friends and a good laid back atmosphere, what more could you want?
