God Morgon! Today is Santa Lucia the Swedish celebration of light!
I wish I could be in Sweden this year to celebrate, but for now these decorations will have to suffice. The tree pictured above actually fell down in my parents yard over Thanksgiving and they turned it into the most perfect “Swedish” Christmas Tree. I absolutely love it!!
The straw goat pictured above is a decoration I picked up at a Christmas Market in Stockholm back in 2009. I wish I could fully explain the significance of having a straw goat at Christmas, however there are several different stories that explain the significance of the goat, and not one of the stories offers a particularly strong argument. So, just don’t question it, and instead embrace the goat!
The gold and white hanging star I picked up yesterday at IKEA, if you can’t go to Sweden, go to IKEA, it’s basically the same thing! I jest, but in all seriousness whenever I visit it does help alleviate some of my Swedish homesickness. Paper stars are a staple of Swedish Christmas decorating, and they add such a pretty glow to any room. Santa Lucia is a celebration of light, so today (and every day) embrace all the light that surrounds us!
