The green juice trend has been going pretty strong for several years and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down in terms of popularity. It seems like everywhere you look a new juice place is popping up on the corner with an alacrity not seen since Starbucks burst onto the market. I at first was skeptical of the fad and thus was a late adopter to the scene.
Due to the fact that I have to closely monitor the amount of sugar I consume everyday (something everyone should probably be doing anyways) I was often hesitant to buy fresh juices because of my inability to know their actual sugar content (if you aren’t careful, some green juices can have as much sugar in them as a candy bar!). The price tag also didn’t do anything to help gain my favor, $9.00 + for one glass of juice seemed criminal. And so, it wasn’t until I was given a Nutribullet for Christmas a few years ago and started experimenting with my own concoctions that I realized just how delicious green juice can be.
The Nutribullet quickly became my favorite household appliance. Not only could I control the ingredients, but I could also make my drinks at a much more reasonable cost. I haven’t taken out my full sized blender once since the Nutribullet made its way home. So easy to use and clean! The Nutribullet also introduced me to the health benefits of the green juice and helped me to understand why it has had such staying power. I think most people agree that when they eat healthy foods they feel better, the problem is that the reality of life sometimes gets in the way. I know everyone can relate, and we have all had meals that may have lacked nutritional benefit but were convenient and accessible and thus the most realistic choice in the moment.
Now that I am a green juice convert, I like to start everyday with a glass of green juice. That way I know, no matter what comes my way the rest of the day, I will have given myself a head start on the nutrition it needs and desires. Now I understand that for many people even the time it takes to make your own juice can be too much of a burden to be realistic for everyday life, which is why I am so thrilled about this recent find: Suja Power Greens (pictured above) This product can be found at Whole Foods and is the perfect pick me up on mornings when I am rushing out the door. With only 4 grams of sugar per serving (all from the vegetables and a hint of grapefruit and lime, none added), it is a juice you can drink without having to worry about blood sugar spikes. The bottle is also $8.99 at my local Whole Foods for 46 ounces, making it a steal compared to the specialty juice shop prices. And to top it off, all of the ingredients are organic which will always earn extra points by me.
Healthy and convenient fuel for your life!
