“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” – Fred Rogers
Today is a day that always always causes me to stop and reflect. For those waking up to the aftermath of Irma, or for those currently battling the wild fires out West, to those trying to rebuild their lives following the devastating earthquake in Mexico, or those still working tirelessly to regain order following Hurricane Harvey, remember this quote from Mr. Rogers and allow it to guide your perspective.
No matter, what adversities we face in life (whether it be an act of nature, or mankind), never lose sight of the goodness that is always around us. It can be hard to see sometimes, but it is so important to acknowledge and be thankful for the good and light. With our attention we give that goodness the power to shine brighter, and outshine the dark and negativity. Instead of focusing on loss, instead we must redirect our minds to focus on the abundance we still have. We must give gratitude (and financial contributions if you are able) to relief workers and volunteers and help strengthen their efforts. Better yet we can volunteer our time and energy.
We can all be helpers.
