I have been taking some time lately to reboot and recharge. I was feeling completely drained after the holidays and felt like I was on the verge off a total burnout. I knew I needed to make some changes in my life and was very ready to do so.
The wonderful thing about life is that everyday you get to make decisions and set intentions that lead you to where you want to be. When I reflected on how I was feeling vs. how I want to feel I realized there were several tangible steps I could be taking to improve my overall physical and mental wellbeing. And so starting the Second week of January (was traveling the first week) I made the following changes:
- Clean Eating: I always overindulge around Christmas and New Years so it was time to reset my eating patterns. I will be coming to the end of my 21 day clean eating cleanse on Monday, but plan to keep following an anti-inflammatory diet for the foreseeable future.
- Better Sleep: I always feel overbooked during the holidays and as a result my sleep suffers, for the month of January I have vowed to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night, and I honestly feel like this has made a huge difference
- Establish a realistic exercise routine: In my head I would love to go to the gym and take classes seven days a week. However, that just isn’t feasible with my current life and commitments. My goal for this winter is to attend at least three classes per week at the gym and then exercise on my own at least two more times.
- Build in time everyday to relax: When I am feeling rundown I know it is my body’s plea for some down time. For me relaxation includes lighting a million candles, drinking tea (pictured above), and watching light hearted television or reading a good book. Time spent relaxing at home fills me with happiness and allows me to sustain the energy I need to tackle all the other aspects of my life.
Wishing everyone a healthy happy weekend and don’t be afraid to set aside some time to relax and unwind!
