So I have heard about the Weleda Skin Food in passing for a few years now and I used to briefly glance its way when passing it in the aisles of Whole Foods. Lately however, with the release of the new Skin Food Light (for those who find the original to be too heavy), there has been a whole lot of chatter regarding this ol’ product (Weleda has been around since 1921). When I heard two different sources confirm separately that they think this product is more effective than La Mer… well color me intrigued.
You see La Mer has been the gold standard of skin cream for years and at $325 for a 2 ounce bottle… it is insanely expensive. In my mid twenties I was eager to get my hands on this product and used to get samples at the various department stores that line Michigan Avenue (no shame). The product is definitely a great moisturizer, but did it heal and prevent hormonal acne as promised by one sales person? Absolutely not? Did it make all skin discoloration disappear as promised by another? No way. Do I think it is worth the hefty price tag… honestly no.
I have seen a range of prices on the Weleda Skin Food (Whole Foods is the most expensive at around $18.00 and it is about $13.00 at Target for a 2.5 ounce tube), but if you have Amazon Prime at $11.39 for a 2.5 ounce tube, that is the way to go! One application of this cream leaves your face feeling like you have just had the world’s best facial. This is a hydration boost like I didn’t even realize was possible. It’s an all natural product made in Germany (so you know its good!), and all fragrance comes from natural oils not perfumes. It is a heavier cream but does not lead to breakouts, and I would suggest using this anytime your skin needs a serious hydration boost ASAP. I will never go on a plane without this, and it is perfect for summer days when you spend a little too much time in the sun/outdoors.
