Taking care of your body is an act of kindness. An act of kindness that is hopefully contagious. When you are kind to yourself, it is more likely that you will feel inspired to be compassionate to others. One of the easiest ways to be benevolent to your body is to be mindful of what you put in it, and also on it (our skin being the largest organ and all that jazz). Natural beauty products are an easy way to incorporate acts of kindness to your body into your everyday routine. Why unnecessarily bombard your body with harsh chemicals when there are natural options available? Below is a roundup of the top natural beauty items in my current beauty regime.
Portland Apothecary Body Oil: I picked up this magical Elixir on a trip to Portland last summer at Made Here PDX in downtown Portland. Next time you find yourself in Portland definitely check out this shop, their selection of natural and local beauty products is amazing, and they also have a ton of local home and apparel brands represented as well. What makes this body oil stand out above and beyond other body oils on the market is that it has a light fragrance that is pleasant but almost imperceptible once on your skin and it is highly absorbent. Unlike some oils that seem to sit on your skin for a while, this oil immediately nourishes your skin and doesn’t leave any residue. All good in my book. It looks like the oil is currently sold out online but since Portland Apothecary’s goods are seasonal hopefully they will come out with a fresh batch of this product later this spring/early summer!
Seagrape Salve: this was another Portland find and I am so in love I used up my first tin in record time and have already repurchased. Winters especially have never been kind to my skin and when the temperature drops my skin becomes an instant desert. This balm is the only product I have found that actually works on my trouble spots: hands, heals, and elbows. Even though the scent is called naked, the herbs and oils in this do have a light and calming scent that I cannot get enough of.
Herbivore Toners: Of all of the natural beauty products in my roundup Herbivore has the widest distribution, and can now be found at national retailers such as Sephora, Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom. There is a reason these natural products have such a wide: reach they are fantastic. This brand really proves that natural beauty products are just as good as their mainstream counterparts. You don’t have to sacrifice anything to use natural beauty products. I use both of the sprays above (Rose Hibiscus and Hydrate) interchangeably as facial toners and find both to be hydrating yet gentle.
Morocaan Elixer Face Oil: This oil was first introduced to me by mom. I had used Argan oils in the past and liked the results but had stopped using them after I learned that many of the brands cut their Argan oils with cheaper lower quality oils and other synthetic ingredients…not cool. I like that this oil is transparent about the ingredients inside. I use it every night before I go to bed and can honestly say the nights I don’t put it on I notice a big difference in the hydration and softness of my skin in the morning. This product is also made for women by women, which is something I will always support.
So remember always be kind to your body, it is your way to give thanks for of all the wonderful things it does for you.
