Happy Matcha Monday everyone! Since I have never been a big coffee drinker, tea has always been my morning drink of choice (preferably served over ice, warm drinks in the morning just make me extra sleepy… zzzz). Thus not surprisingly I was an early adapter to the matcha madness trend. Matcha, is ground up green tea, that is full of antioxidants and has higher caffeine levels (though still much less than coffee) compared to other teas. It is perfect for mornings you need the extra boost, so every morning for me! My most favorite way to drink matcha is over ice with almond milk. Making matcha lattes at home makes sense not only economically, (speciality drinks can be $$) but also because I can control the ingredients. A lot of cafes and restaurants use matcha mixed with sugar for their matcha drinks and I personally prefer the pure ground green tea, like the Rishi Everyday Matcha pictured above.
To further enhance my morning drink I have recently started adding Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides to my morning matcha. I decided to give the product a try because I had been seeing rave reviews online and have several friends who swear by the stuff. The collagen peptides are tasteless and textureless (I just try not to dwell on the fact that the collagen itself comes from cowhides…eek) and add a boost of protein and amino acids to my daily beverage. Users swear by a myriad of health improvements including strengthening of their hair and nails, and though I haven’t seen that yet, I have noticed a significant decrease in joint pain (something I have struggled with my entire life). This is not an ad, just a product I have tried liked and will definitely remain a part of my morning matcha routine.
