It seems only fitting that after yesterday’s proclamation of my love for pretty things, today I share my exuberance for I what I believe to be the most beautiful article of clothing: the kaftan (or caftan, spelling is fluid). Long or short I love them all. Now living in the Midwest, the kaftan is a pretty unpractical article of clothing nine months out of the year. However not one to be deterred, that is the reason why I have adopted the kaftan as my official house uniform. Everyone else can do whatever makes them happy but when I am at home, I look like a glorious goddess in my kaftans and feel like one too. Home is the one place where you should always feel comfortable and be yourself, so I figure why not be myself at my most majestic. I may not have much control over what happens in the outside world, but in my home I can be a ruler most kind and fair. Why do I love kaftans so much, you ask? Well the reasons are innumerable but I will try to narrow it down to my top three:
- Kaftans are literally wearable art. My favorite kaftans are made from exquisitely patterned fabric. Animal prints and florals being my favorite. These patterns are then adorned with crystals, beads and many other embellishments. Kaftans are the embodiment of a “more is more” sentiment, and in this case I absolutely love it.
- Kaftans don’t care about your size: A proper kaftan fits perfectly no matter your body type or current weight fluctuations. A kaftan does not care if you overindulge during the holidays, or had that extra piece of chocolate cake last night. At the same time a kaftan is equally immune to a successful diet or any weight loss. Why? Because a kaftan makes you feel fabulous always, scales and body measurements mean nothing to its flowing magnificence. Don’t we all need more of that unwavering support and stability in our lives?
- Kaftans are incredibly comfortable: There are no zippers or buttons or constraining elements of any kind. A kaftan would never reveal any of your lumps or bumps, so shapewear can be left exactly where it belongs, far far away from your happy and free body. Your body feels as unrestricted as if you were completely naked, yet you still look like the most glamorous person in the room. One could argue that because I live alone, I am always the most glamorous person in the room by default, and this is true. However, I like to know that if someone were to casually show up and I didn’t have time to change, I would still be decked out to take top prize ;-).
So yes my love for kaftans is strong and true, and my collection continues to grow. This is thanks in part to brands such as Asa Kaftans (kaftan 3 in the image above) and La Moda. I highly respect both brands because they offer all of the glamour and joie de vivre I look for in a kaftan. They have exciting prints with super fun embellishments and are available at a much more reasonable and accessible price point than many of their competitors. This appeals to me because I personally believe that kaftans should be accessible to all. Everyone should be able to feel like a true goddess and ruler of their home, with or without a goddess budget.
