Whenever I take down my Christmas decorations there is always a period of readjustment. It takes me a little while to get used to things being back in their usual order, without the extra sparkle and glow of a Christmas tree. If you also feel this way, just know you are not alone.
In order to combat that feeling of something lost, I decided to take matters in to my own hands and while at the grocery store I picked up a bouquet of colorful roses. I picked up the smallest and cheapest bouquet Whole Foods had to offer (Trader Joe’s also always has a great selection at incredible prices) and put them in my Orrefors globe vase. I cannot tell you how happy this small addition to my home makes me! I literally smile every time I look at them! The bright pinks and yellows of the roses are such a perfect pick me up for these grey January days. The flowers feel like a a reminder of the great things that already are and a positive omen for the even better things to come.
Since I love everything sparkly, this vase is one of my favorites. I have been in love with all things Orrefors since I first visited their glass factory in Southern Sweden in 2008 (Swedish pride all day every day!). What I love about Orrefors crystal in particular, is their fun and modern take on crystal designs. It is hard to see the exact pattern in this photo but if you click here you can get a better view of the free form etching on this vase, I think it is a nice departure from some of the more traditional designs. The globe shape also sets this piece apart, and makes it a little more exciting than the standard cylindrical vase.
That being said, you don’t need to have roses in crystal to add happiness to your home. Any flowers and a vase will do (heck use a large cup if that’s your thing!) as long as you think they are pretty! The point of all of this, is that sometimes the smallest little additions can create the greatest reward and spark feelings of joy. Your home should make you happy and sometimes something as simple as a couple flowers can be just the thing to do the trick!
