Fika is the Swedish practice of taking a break to enjoy a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. In Sweden Fika breaks happen two times per day, once mid morning and a second time in the afternoon.
As someone who does not drink coffee on the regular and tries to monitor my sugar intake, Fika sadly is not a part of my daily routine. However, because I am all about balance, every once in a while I like to partake in Fika and I always make sure to go all out and really enjoy myself.
Which brings me to my new fall fika superstars. Let’s start with the drink: Cardamom Vanilla Latte from Pete’s Coffee. I am not a huge coffee drinker but everyday I pass a Pete’s Coffee on the way home from my gym. Earlier this week I saw the sign for the new fall Cardamom Vanilla Latte pictured above and I knew I would have to give it a try. Cardamom lovers rejoice, this drink is amazing, and I might just increase my coffee consumption from several times a month to weekly just to enjoy this delicious concoction while it lasts.
Now, no fika would be complete without a sweet treat, and for my fall indulgence I chose the pumpkin spice old-fashioned donut from Stan’s Donuts pictured above. It was perfection, this was my third attempt at trying to purchase this donut from Stan’s (they sell out every day) and this was in fact their last donut of the day which made it taste even sweeter! This donut definitely lives up to the hype and I am so happy my persistence paid off. Fall Fika at its finest!
