Get Out and Smell the Pollen

May 13, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

Yesterday I was feeling a bit out of sorts and decided I needed to take a walk. It was a nice sunny day and I remembered reading recently that several nature preserves right outside of Chicago had re-opened recently.

So I did a little research and told Blair we were heading on an adventure. It was absolutely perfect, like at one point I felt like I was living in a Disney movie. There were hundreds of flowering trees and the ground cover was full of purple, white and yellow wild flowers. I wish I had a better camera that could have captured the natural beauty.

I social distanced and wore my face mask the whole time but nothing could take away from the perfection of the moment. The temperature was just right, and the sun felt nice but not oppressive. It truly was exactly what I needed. If there is one thing I am thankful for in times of social distancing it is the dramatic decrease in car traffic these days. We drove during what would normally have been the evening commute, and were able to fly out and then back into town with no issues.

For everyone who just needs a break right now, I highly recommend spending some time in the trees, and don’t be afraid to get in your car and drive a little either. This week, let’s all make it a goal to spend less time watching Netflix and a little more time in nature.

Monday Mood Boosters

March 16, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

Most of us are currently homebound due to Covid-19, and with so much uncertainty, and lack of clear messaging, it is totally reasonable to feel a little (or more) anxious. The good news, is that there are plenty of ways to combat that unease right from the comfort of your home!

So without further ado here is my top list of ways to reduce stress, during these stressful times.

  1. Take a bath – this is my go-to never fail stress reliever. Light a candle, play soothing music and just let the warm water help relieve any tension you are holding in your body. If you don’t have a bathtub, take a super long shower and still play music and light candles it sets the tone.
  2. Play music and have a dance party for one – this never fails to lighten my mood and helps burn off extra energy.
  3. Do an at-home workout – speaking of burning off energy, there are tons of free workouts on youtube that were specially designed to be completed at home.
  4. Paint/Color/Craft – you know those supplies you buy for art projects that you never actually do… now is the time!
  5. Watch your favorite movie or tv show – with all of the various streaming services currently available, there has never been a better time to stay home and binge watch all of your favorites.
  6. Meditate – check out “Meditation Minis Podcast” if you would like short guided meditations.
  7. Read a Book – choose a book in your favorite genre. Once again light a candle, make a cup of tea or coffee, and settle in.

Hopefully one of these activities will provide relief for you too!

Winter Wellness

February 10, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

Fun fact: your body heals when you rest/sleep in a calm and safe environment.

I received this UMA Pure Rest Wellness Oil as a Christmas gift and notice a huge difference on the nights I use this oil before bed. I personally just put a couple drops of the oil onto my fingers and then gently massage it into my temples. The aroma immediately calms me and sends a signal to my body that it is time to relax.

Sometimes after a long day I go to bed still feeling frazzled and wound up and this oil immediately puts me at ease. It’s like an all natural organic reset button.

While a calming oil might not seem like a necessity to everyone, after a hectic start to the new year I am determined to create a more zen and balanced 2020 going forward. Giving my body the chance to properly rest and renew itself seems like the perfect place to start!

Monday Madness

September 30, 2019 by moonflower Leave a Comment

It is the start of a new week, and we are already up and running at full speed.

I love the photo above because it was taken during rush hour and shows: trains, cars, boats and people on foot. Everyone was in a hurry, and rushing about. However, even though it was such a hectic time of day, when captured in photo it all seems so serene.

I think this photo serves as an important message for us all. When we are rushing about throughout the week we have two choices. We can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all and let the noise and energy overwhelm us. Or we can choose to take a moment to center ourselves and find our calm.

This week I am choosing to embrace the calm.

“The Keeper of Lost Things”

September 25, 2019 by moonflower Leave a Comment

If anyone is looking for a heartwarming book to read this fall, look no further than The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan.

It is a story that touches upon all of the hallmarks of the human experience: love, loss, connecting with others, and ultimately living the life we were destined to lead.

I don’t want to give too much about this book or its plot points away. The joy of this novel is the journey, and it is a journey that is worth taking. However, this book serves as a reminder that in life there are always second chances, and everyone has a purpose and a place where they belong.
