Colorful Comfies

August 21, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

I have finally reached the point in life where nothing gives me greater joy then dressing up as a colorful tie dyed marshmallow.

If I am going to be spending more time at home, I might as well spend that time in comfort and why not experiment with looks that I would never dream of wearing outside my home. It’s not that I don’t like tie dye, I totally do, I just also recognize that it is not the most flattering/appropriate look for a somewhat well adjusted adult. Then lockdown happened and all rules were thrown out the window. I started seeing tie dye sweatsuits popping up on every corner and at every price range, and while I am not willing to throw 300+ dollars at this trend (the amount of sweatsuits in this price range is astounding), this $40.00 (Sweatshirt & Joggers) set from Target does just the trick!

The material is insanely soft inside, making this one of the most comfortable outfits I own. I love the pink and purple colors (there also is a mint green and blue set which I also love!). Is this the most flattering outfit out there? Absolutely not. Does it still spark joy? You betcha!

Mask it Up

August 14, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

“Does this mask go with my outfit?” is not a question I ever expected to ask myself, but it is now 2020 and this is a question I now ask myself on the daily.

To be perfectly honest, most days, I can be found rocking a medical grade mask. They truly are the safest option and in my opinion safety is more important than style. That being said there are days where for one reason or another I need the convenience of a mask that can easily be slipped on and off and not have to mess with those pesky medical mask ties.

I recently found these masks at Anthropologie and I must say they are the best fabric masks I have found yet! They are super breathable and have a pouch inside where you can insert a mask filter (safe and stylish!). I also like that they have a metal nose piece that shapes to your face and prevents the dreaded glasses fog we have all come to know and despise. They also are super comfortable and don’t pull too tight or slip off your ears. Online it looks like you can only buy them in a three pack, but in store you can buy individually and pick out the designs you prefer!

Instead of viewing masks as a nuisance, I choose to look at them as an accessory that also protects you! So why not find some you really like and have some fun!

Summer Crowns

Silver Crystal – Gold Multicolored Gems

As I write this post, we still aren’t entirely sure when salons are going to re-open in Chicago. Instead of getting upset however, I view this an opportunity to get creative! I personally have been a fan of headbands for basically my whole life, and with my current hair situation I have been wearing one for every day lately.

Lele Sadoughi headbands (pictured above) are my absolute favorite because a) they are fabulous b) they are the most comfortable headband on the market. I personally like her styles with embellishment because it makes me feel like I am wearing a crown! However, she has at least 100+ styles to choose from in all different fabrics, styles and level of embellishment. These two denim styles are my go-to’s at the moment and I will be wearing them all summer! The silver and white crystal headband I actually picked up a couple of summers ago but I just found it is back on the Lele website! The multicolored gold jeweled headband was a gift I received for my birthday and I am obsessed with it! I am also convinced it goes with absolutely everything in my summer wardrobe so get ready to see it a lot!

Lele also makes great (super lightweight) earrings that go perfectly with her headbands but can also be worn alone. So instead of lamenting ragged ends and grown out highlights, put on a crown and feel fabulous!

* Also, I do want to acknowledge that these headbands are an investment and I have a tip: if you find a style you like, do a simple google search to determine all the locations where it is sold. Then keep an eye for sales at those sites. You are bound to find a good deal!

Scrunchie Season

May 20, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

I have fully embraced the scrunchie for quite some time. I love that they don’t damage your hair, and never leave a crease in your hair, which is perfect for mid day workouts.

I have been rocking velvet scrunchies all winter and wanted to update my collection with more seasonally appropriate fabrics. I am very big into seasonally appropriate fabrics lol. I found this six pack of super soft jersey scrunchies at Walgreens (one of the few stores currently open) and this whole pack was super affordable at $5.99. Here is a link to order them at Target, which is also open and offers curbside pickup: Scrunchies! I plan to rock these all spring and summer long!

I also am going to be on the lookout or some fun bright colors. I may be taking a much more laid back approach to my hair these days, but I still want to have some fun!

Just Another Mani Monday

May 11, 2020 by moonflower Leave a Comment

Essie released Expressie a new line of nail polishes late last year, however they didn’t exactly land on my radar until social distancing took place and professional manicures were no longer an option.

This nail polish is advertised as quick drying, requiring no base coat or top coat, and is an 8-free vegan formula (which means it doesn’t include all of the bad chemicals found in a lot of polishes). The nail polish also features a new style of brush that is both wide and angled, and makes messing up nearly impossible. At first the new brush threw me, but I quickly realized it is genius and I wish every nail polish would make the switch.

I personally like to top mine with a top coat, even though it is not required. I have done two at home mani’s in different colors using this technique, and both times I was able to go a full week without any chipping. You don’t have to be a professional to have beautiful nails, and at only $9.00 a bottle, you can experiment with different colors. I also really like some of the oranges and blues in this collection, its a quick and easy way to change things up and add some color to your life!
